Sales figures for first half of 2008 in the Japanese console market have just come out, revealing a drop in sales overall of more than 20%. The Xbox makes a slimy bottom place with sales for the period a bit more than 10% of the Nintendo DS in the number 1 slot. Meanwhile, in the UK, Microsoft’s price cutting strategy is paying off, with sales up more than 200%. The Xbox 360 is currently outselling the PS3 two to one there, but there’s still a long way to go if they want to outrank the Wii.
About Electronics is reporting that Xbox 360s based on the Jasper 65nm process chip are being shipped now. Microsoft is hoping that the new chip will reduce the problems it’s been having with the RROD, which might be connected with the 90nm chip currently in use.
Microsoft will be regretting it hasn’t got an exclusive deal with EA for their Dead Space
title, which is set for release on October 14 in the US, October 24 in the UK, and has gone gold. EA announced 2 free console-specific limited editiion downloadable outfits for the game, with increased toughness and inventory slots, one for the PS3 and one for the Xbox - and only available for download within 14 days of the game’s release. Not sure if this is October 14, or the date the game is released in your country, beloved reader (if that’s different). But either way, if you’re going to buy the game, it seems your best bet is to pre-order now, and cross your fingers that you get it before the deadline expires…

Microsoft is releasing a new Xbox controller that eliminates the bugs that make the D-pad on the standard model pretty much useless in some games.
That’s the good news. The bad news is that it’s a limited edition, and will only be shipped as part of a bundle, and won’t be available in the US. There are no plans to change the standard controller.
So, if you were hoping to get a better controller from Microsoft, you may as well forget it (although it may possibly be released as part of another bundle down the line), at least for now. That leaves you with the option of buying an after-market controller or fixing it yourself.
Meanwhile, the rumors that price drops are on the way seems to be confirmed by a sneak peek at a flyer featured on Engadget who price the Elite at $399, the 60GB version at $299, and the Arcade at $199. As they say, “Target date for truth? September 7th — so stay tuned.”

Wow, don’t know how I missed this. This attractive Master Chief statue came in stock on the 6th. I got the notify but somehow it got buried. I just hope you don’t miss your chance to get this great Limited Edition statue of Master Chief with interchangeable arms and weapons (2 M7s or an Assault Rifle).
It’s detailed and pretty awesome, like most stuff produced by Kotobukiya, showing Master Chief standing on the field of battle, the bubble shield dissipating as he gets ready to enter the fray. Not many of these will be made available. This is one not to be missed. Click for more info.
